20. Jan.

Another new site for the tent this morning. We drove back to the Port Arthur Historic site to see the remaining things that we couldn’t take in yesterday. We used the government wifi and were able to bring our blog up to date. In the afternoon we visited the old convict coalmine and walked a small walk there. In the evening, we finished the day with a glass of wine on the beach.

We decided to stay another night but had to move to another site. Due to this we were quite late at our first attraction of the day. We drove to the remarkable cave and were just able to get photos before the tide came in. We then drove to the Word Heritage site of Port Arthur where we were surprised by the huge complex and the many tourists. After 6 hours of information, a guided tour and a trip on a boat to the nearby islands, we had had enough. Back at the campsite, the camp people put on a free sausage sizzle for all the campers. We spoke with some German tourists about their plans in Tasmania and Victoria. An ambulance had to come next to our site to help a young boy who had had a fit. The next day they came back and the boy was better.

18. Jan.
Sonnenuntergang white Beach

________________________________We wanted to visit the “Museum of everything” in Mona today but first had to pick up supplies in Hobart. This meant that we didn’t get there until 11am and we were very surprised that the complete parking area was full and we had to park elsewhere. The museum or Gallery is fantastic and worth seeing. We were about 5 hours there. Our next destination was Port Arthur and so we drove via Hobart in the rush hour 120km to the camping ground which was already full. We were pleased to get a site at White Beach where we also had a wonderful sunset.

17. Jan.

We set off early to go up to Mt Wellington stopping twice but the brewery was still closed as was the women’s Factory ( the ruins of a women’s prison) This meant we were quite early on top of the mountain .Because many tourists followed us we were not long alone. There was a good view towards Hobart and beyond. Knowing that the brewery also served good scones, we stopped on the way back to enjoy them in the beautiful garden there. Picked up a sewing kit and visited the Mawsons Hut(an explorer of Antarktis) This was really interesting but we needed to find a camp site for the night. Marlene did some washing and later we stopped at the Botanical Gardens for a short walk. We attended another organ concert in the town hall.

16. Jan.
In Hobart dann so alles was uns interessierte abgelaufen. Hobart 1

Unfortunately, the night was very loud due to the road but because of the easy access to Hobart we booked another night. We visited all the interesting things in Hobart. We even got a private view of the 180 year old theatre. The Davids Church, the Salamanca place and the waterfront were also beautiful. In the afternoon we had a wine tasting and in the evening visited an organ concert in the Davids Church

15. Jan.

Sonnenuntergang Hobart

Very early in the morning we walked a beautiful 6km walk to 3 waterfalls and through a forest of giant trees. After breakfast we stayed in New Norfolk and went to the library to update our blog and other internet stuff. We found a very cheap campground at the showgrounds but the wind was really strong and we didn’t like the spot anyway. We got a site in an expensive campground which felt safer. We drove into Hobart before sunset, ate fish and chips(obligatory) We spent the evening in the camp kitchen.

14. Jan.

We slept in a bit today and then realized that our tent pegs were missing. They are lying somewhere in St Claire NP. Our first activity was buying tent pegs and groceries. We took off for Mt Field NP and set up our tent straight away. We had lunch in the camp kitchen and then did 2 tours. One tour was to Pandini Grove on Lake Dobson and then to a wonderful lookout. It was really windy and threatened to rain the whole time. Had a nice dinner in the camp kitchen in the evening. Saw a small tiger snake on the way.
